was discussing this in the iliad community i'm in, but i think that agamemnon is rlly underrated and misrepresented as a character. i do understand why he is portrayed so negatively in so many modern adaptations, because a lot of his actions in the iliad have.... uh, not aged particularly well. certainly when i first read the iliad and approached it from a modern perspective i hated him, but now, i rlly like him as a character. like, yes, he does do bad things (the way he treated chryses was horrible), but i think a lot of his flaws can be put down to pride, and he's not the only character in the iliad to cause problems due to his pride

i do think that modern depictions of clytemnestra as an unproblematic 'girlboss' has led to agamemnon being portrayed as Just Plain Evil and. sigh. i can understand why ppl don't like him because of his treatment of chryseis and briseis, but you can't act like he's the only man in the iliad to be shit towards captive women. like, fundamentally, he is not a modern character, and should not be treated like a modern character. he only appears to be evil and horrible because you've taken him out of context

the dehumanization and infantilization of the players in squid game makes me insane. they're all assigned numbers and only referred to by staff as that. they aren't people, just numbers. gi-hun says that they treat the players like horses to bet on (and they do!). the trackers in their skin. the way all the games are inspired by games for children; all of the competitors are grown adults. the tracksuits that look like school sportswear. even simple, accidental, human mistakes are punished. they aren't meant to be seen as human. they're just players of a game, in the eyes of the creators.

On Wednesday before I gave my presentation I confessed to a new employee that I was worried it would be too long and she brightly told me her life hack was to just let AI rewrite things for her. She said I should put in all my talking points and ask ChatGPT to give me a five minute exactly presentation. I was like....how is the most polite possible way (since this is a new colleague I shouldn't get off on the wrong foot with) that I can express that I will Not be taking this advice. Ever. I told her that I didn't think we were allowed to use ChatGPT at this job (we most certainly are not, it is a nightmare for any type of protected information) and also that I prefer to write all of my own work. Despite my best efforts the last part of that was still passive aggressive, lol.

Something about being a writer makes it so that it's almost offensive to me for someone to suggest I use AI to do my work instead? Like, the day I reach the point where I let AI write something for me is the day y'all need to be checking me for brain damage because clearly I'm losing it
